Applications for 2020 are open from 1 August 2019.
Applications to this programme are made via the NIH in the USA in the first instance, each year. See the NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program website, which can be accessed from the link in the right-hand navigation.
The NIH application portal is open on 1st August and closes 2nd December 2019. Invitations for interview are sent out in mid-January and interviews are held on 11,12 & 13 February 2020.
If you receive an offer from the NIH and you would like to study at the University of Cambridge, please submit an application via the University’s Graduate Admissions Applicant Portal. You can search for the course by entering National Institutes of Health Oxford/Cambridge Program into the course directory using the link in the right-hand navigation. Alternatively, you can apply directly to the department of your area of research interest, ie Psychiatry, Engineering, Chemistry, etc.
Other opportunities for NIH-Cambridge scholarships
The NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Programme collaborates with a number of other University of Cambridge Scholarship schemes, including GATES and the Cambridge Trust. To be considered for these scholarships you must apply to the Cambridge course of your choice on the University application portal, by the funding deadline – in tandem with your NIH application. Your Cambridge application will then be considered by that course administration and -if successful- be nominated for consideration by Gates, Cambridge Trust and other University funding streams. For 2020 applicants the University application portal opens on 3rd September 2019.
The deadlines for applications to these funding schemes vary and in some cases are earlier than the NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Programme application deadline. Information on funding opportunities at the University of Cambridge can be accessed via the link in the right-hand navigation.
NB: If you are successful at receiving the NIH OxCam scholarship, NIH-Gates or NIH-Cambridge Trust scholarships and wish to accept the offer of a place the Graduate Training Office will arrange for any necessary updates to your Cambridge application record.
The Application Guide, which can be downloaded from the link in the right-hand navigation, provides information on how to submit your application to Cambridge and apply for a visa.
